A trio of Liverpudlian lasses, Stealing Sheep are a band who have had quite a bit of air time and recognition since forming in the summer of 2010. The band have been met with acclaim from DJs such as Lauren Laverne and Jarvis Cocker as well as doing work for BBC Radio with various artists.

‘Into the Diamond Sun’ is a 12-track collection of well-written, folk pop with great harmonies and music covering a range of different themes. It’s clear to understand why they’ve been given so much acclaim. I’m impressed at the tightness of the harmonies in the voices. They are clear and stand alone from the instruments which are in the background driving the song along and filling in the gaps between the verses.

Across the 12 tracks you would be hard pushed not to admire the writing and the harmonies, which for me are the highlight of the album. The opening tracks (‘In the Garden’, ‘Shut Eye’ and ‘Rearrange’) set the scene for the album and giving the listener a chance to understand where the band want to take them. There are a number of influences coming across in the writing and I couldn’t help but imagine Lily Allen singing track 4, ‘White Lies’ and track 5 ‘Genevieve’ wouldn’t be amiss at a beach party or a Banarama album!

For those who like Fleetwood Mac and Jimmy Hendrix, this could well be the album for you – Stealing Sheep have a musically well constructed piece which will appeal to your tastes.

Out now on Heavenly Recordings.
