Ahead of this year’s HRH Prog festival, which starts on Thursday, we sent two of our resident progheads, Charlie Gardner & Gaz Cloud, out to talk to some of the bands on the bill. In this first episode, they talk to the legend that is Arthur Brown.

(((o))): What can we expect from CWoAB at HRH Prog IV?

High energy. Excitement. Musical variety. Joy. Playfulness. A show.

(((o))): Which of the other bands on the bill will you try to catch, and why?

I’d like to see Ian Anderson – magnetic trailblazer; Focus – delightful musicianship; Caravan, Soft Machine, The Enid, Curved Air and Edgar Broughton (some beautiful melodic singing last time I saw him).  Between them all there’s such a great variety of musical approaches.

(((o))): Do you think it’s important prog has its own bespoke festival?

Prog music does have its own flavours and parameters. For those who love it, this festival is a great chance to be among like-minded people, and to be able to expose oneself to the enormous variety the style covers.

(((o))): What are your plans in the months following the festival?

I shall relocate my yurt by the sea; prepare for a US tour; work on the new Crazy World album in the UK; go to the US to record, spend time in Austin with my son, grandson, and with friends; and work on my multimedia autobiography.

Enjoy every moment.

(((o))): What should any self-respecting prog fan make sure they pack before heading off to a chalet festival on the Llŷn Peninsula?

A copy of such tales as Proggie Would A-wooing Ride, The Prog Prince and The Princess and the Prog

(((o))): What does the term “prog” mean to you?

A cross between porage and Roger

(((o))): What would be your weapon of choice in the event of a zombie apocalypse?

A sonic annihilator or a Donald Trump pistol.

(((o))): The organisers ask you to play an ad hoc unplugged at the top of Snowdon. Are you mad enough to do it?

I roll naked in the snow. And sing naked at some festivals…

(((o))): Additionally, what Bowie track would you choose to play as an encore?

“Wild is the Wind”.

Crazy World of Arthur Brown headline HRH Prog IV on Thursday 17 March, 2016.
