Released on March 18, 2016 via FDA Rekotz

Old-school death metal is an institution. Much of the prevailing trend in death metal still veers towards dark death metal and old-school death metal. Retro is chic. Old-school is always cool. Get it?!

Funeral Whore doesn’t have to suffer the indignity of being pooled in with hordes of uninspired bands plagiarizing the annals of death metal history. Funeral Whore play death metal that any death metal fan will appreciate. Guaranteed.

And that’s regardless if you’re more of a black metal freak, or hardcore, punk, death metal whatchamacallit fan! Play a little Funeral Whore and the corpses rise out of their sedentary graves, fresh from the loam!

I loved their previous material and this record reviewed by yours truly is just as revelatory as their last full-length massacre. Scratch your ears off if you can’t believe what you are hearing when you play their latest full-length album, Phantasm, care of FDA Rekotz. The label from Brandenburg is a death metal merchant of absolutely stellar caliber. No doubt about it!

Funeral Whore like to build up the riff solo before the drums and bass kick in and it’s an absolute romper-stomper. No blastbeats here. No tremolo riffs a’la Abyssal. This is pure unadulterated death metal the way Funeral Whore likes it. Starting off with the blistering first track, ‘Phantasm’, there’s no looking back. Everything reeks of death metal stench before it’s said and done.

Eleven tracks worth of varied, slow, mid-tempo, fast, well-written songs that are played to perfection, Funeral Whore’s Phantasm has been criminally underrated so far, so if you’re an old-school death metal collector, order yourself a copy and do death metal a favor. No four hundred word minimum guidelines met when a review only seeks to spread word of good metal like it’s Gonorrhea. You’re gonna wish you’re dead if you miss out on Funeral Whore’s latest. Haters get the fuck out!
