Thy Serpent’s Cult – Supremacy of Chaos

It’s a shame this band split up, but again, sometimes you have to know when to hang it up. For Thy Serpent’s Cult, they really went out in a full brutal assault, which is how any band should go out.

Almyrkvi – Umbra

Almyrkvi really did a number on this album and for being a debut, this is really a ripper.

Common Eider, King Eider – Shrines for the Unwanted, Respite for the Cast Aside

This album is a soundscape of emotions, perfectly executed in the most eloquent way.

Downfall of Gaia – Atrophy

A record of just blasting fierceness, disdain, and a general kick in the pants to these miserable times.

Liber Null – I, The Serpent

I loved ‘I, The Serpent’, it is well executed, it is hard hitting and has great musicianship. But I was disappointed they wanted to do a safe album like this.

S U R V I V E – RR7349

Dark, foreboding, and raw. ‘RR7349’ is atmospheric, with expansive soundscapes and haunting melodies. – By Daniel Chavez

Uhtcearu – The Plight of Wanderers

‘The Plight of Wanders’ really is a solid album, which fills the gap that Agalloch has left since their disbandment. – By Daniel Chavez

Waxen – Weihung Auf Satan

‘Weihung auf Satan’ is a ripping album. It is hard, harsh, and full of stunning guitar work. This album is solid and is not only a great black metal album, but a great all around metal album! – By Daniel Chavez

Krigsgrav – Waves of Degradation

Krigsgrav is a very underrated band, their albums have been progressively getting more massive and striking every time. Their fourth full length further defines their sound scape of atmospheric black metal. – By Daniel Chavez

Perturbator – The Uncanny Valley

‘The Uncanny Valley’ is everything you need to usher in the future rise of the machine death cult. – By Daniel Chavez

Sarcoptes – Songs And Dances Of Death

‘Songs and Dances of Death’, don’t get me wrong, is good, but I think it is just too generic. To me it just sounds like a classic sound, which is long past its prime. – By Daniel Chavez

Black Twilight Circle – Desert Dances and Serpent Sermons

If you are a fan of black metal, then get this and prepare for the next big albums to come from this talented collective! – By Daniel Chavez

Live Review: Primitive Man, CLRVOYANT, Old and Ill, Sores and Thunderkief – The Lost Well, Austin, Texas. July 31st, 2015.

Daniel Chavez went to see Primitive Man at The Lost Well in Austin, Texas with support by local bands CLRVOYANT, Old and Ill, Sores and Thunderkief for a night of heavy doom metal.

Vardan – Winter Woods

Vardan’s new release ‘Winter Woods’ is what I expect from him, track after track is grim. Track after track is the most haunting black metal. Full of emotions, full of absence, and raw. – By Daniel Chavez

ELE – Chewing Walls Through the House / Gnashing of Teeth

This release is two songs of aggressive sounds. Brandon’s guitar is a sonic wave which cuts through you. The vocals are howling and angry, riddled with angst. – By Daniel Chavez

Festival Review: Austin Levitation Fest 2015

Daniel Chavez was at this year’s Austin Levitation Fest (Austin Psych Fest) where he conquered the Texan storms to see another successful festival.

Festival Preview: Austin Levitation Fest

Our man in Austin, Texas, Daniel Chavez, is getting very excited to go to Levitation (formerly Austin Psych Fest), which has one of the best line-ups they’ve ever had!

Festival Review: Texas Independence Fest

Good times where had by all, I am really excited for the upcoming festival season here in Texas. Hopefully it will be as rad as this festival was! By Daniel Chavez

Haust – Bodies

Haust is really stepping out of the genre of any form of extreme music and making a place for themselves. Unfortunately, I think that place is only for them and no one would tag along. – By Daniel Chavez

Cvinger – The Enthronement ov Diabolical Souls

No gimmicks, no weird flutes, no experimenting away from the genre. Just blast beats, growling vocals, and songs about evil ancient gods and war. – By Daniel Chavez

Volahn – Aq’ab’al

From beginning to end the album is well done; exciting. Aq’ab’al encompasses dark and enchanting melodies. It’s filled with a hedonistic ritual sound, which is both relevant and groundbreaking in a USBM album. – By Daniel Chavez
