Art As Catharsis have done it again, finding an absolute gem in this debut album from New Zealanders Opium Eater, which is a stunning journey through a progressive post-metal landscape, full of beautiful moments and crushing riffs.
Drift doesn’t let go of its gifts easily, but will reward the listener who invests the time to get to know this intriguing album.
The Tasmanian band’s second self-titled release is hard to put words to, but hey. It’s a landscape record, It’s a introspective record and it captures so perfectly what (I think) they’re trying to do.
Perhaps some of you missed Hinterlandt’s Ode to Doubt when it was released on Art as Catharsis back in January? Well, now’s your time to make amends, and make friends, with this sublimely gorgeous recording.
‘Single Shot’ is certainly a strong contender for one of this year’s better jazz releases, has a great deal of crossover appeal, and transcends the genres from which it was born, and by which it was influenced. A stunning odyssey into jazz-funk-fusion.
Stuart Benjamin asked the guys behind Australian band Hashshashin some questions. “If I had to describe it to someone I would say something like “heavy progressive rock with psychedelic, experimental, drone and Middle Eastern/Oriental influences.”
As it stands it does its job in annihilating your senses and lovers of hardcore and blackened music will find much to enjoy.
Fat Guy Wears Mystic Wolf Shirt and Jxckxlz really compliment each other on this split release, but they also sound distinctively different, which makes this a very interesting and more than worthwhile release.
