Considering its rather singular, not to say peculiar charms, it is an album I keep returning to – eager for it’s dirty sugar rush.
What Windhand have achieved with Eternal Return is an entrance into their sound-world for those who couldn’t quite access their universe before.
We wanted to do some recording with Jeff because he’s a great songwriter, so when we in the middle of recording A Walk With Love & Death we had Jeff come out and record an EP full of songs. As that went along, we thought “What would it be like if we got Jeff and Steve on an album?” And from the moment they both plugged in we were like “oh fuck yeah, let’s do this”.
In these times of deep division between the entitled and the rest of us, of walls growing between races, genders, neighbourhoods and nations, this fantastic version of Pink Floyd’s classic encapsulates people’s fears and anger.
This is doom, but as for what it really sounds like… well, that is a tough one: it is big but delicate, heavy but airy, morose but uplifting. And it hangs together like all good albums should.
