I’ll be honest, I have no idea how to rate this album. From what I am told instrumental albums are usually best appreciated as background music while you pretend to do work on your Apple Macbook. Unfortunately that would not make for a particularly interesting review (not that this will be any better I’ll be honest). So I will try and somehow break-down this album as best I can.

‘Beyond the 4th Door’ is the eighth LP by five-piece psychedelic instrumental rock band Eternal Tapestry and is only five songs long but still clocks in at around forty-three minutes. Opener ‘Ancient Echoes’ works around a single bassline for its entire eight minute duration while guitars swirl around and unintelligible murmurs echo in the background. It’s all rather interesting for about the first four minutes before becoming insufferable due to the repetitiveness.

‘Cosmic Manhunt’ is a …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead riff that does not go anywhere for four minutes. ‘Galactic Derelict’ gets the formula correct though. It certainly does not contain anything you would consider as melodic but I think that is besides the point. There are blasts and peaks of dynamics from the guitars and drums and something finally works as an eight minute space-rock jam on this album. The last two tracks do not amount to much besides the closing track ‘Time Winds Through A Glass, Clearly’ has elements of Soundgarden set to Pink Floyd.

‘Beyond the 4th Door’ is a struggle to listen to but honestly, I’m probably not the best person to be reviewing this. (I’ve never done drugs to start with). But if this sounds like your thing by all means give it a shot, I’ve certainly heard worse.

Top tracks: ‘Galactic Derelict’.
