One of the lovely things about this ‘job’ is sometimes you get to watch first hand as a band go from taking their first tentative steps in to the world, all bristling with unrealised potential, to blossoming in to a fully fledged swaggering beast; and so it is with Only Echoes Remain. We’ve had out eyes on these guys pretty much since their first gig, through the release of their excellent debut album The Exigent to now, the release of their first new music since then., ‘Monolith’.
And it’s an absolute belter. Recorded live playing for Chaos Theory supporting thisquietarmy in March, and with the fabulous Mr Peter Junge making it sound far better than any live recording has a right to sound, ‘Monolith’ does what it says on the tin. Brooding and powerful and replete with a full on post metal wigout section at the end, ‘Monolith’ is a taster of what is to come from these guys and ensures that we’ll be continuing to follow these guys for a good while yet; or at least until the court order comes through.
