Earlier this year, London based multi-instrumentalist and artist Sona Koloyan released her seven-song DIY debut album titled Pity Party. The album explores “the subtle yet all-consuming nuances of otherness experienced as an Armenian immigrant in the UK. Utilising all she could use, from iPhones to underwear drawers, Pity Party is an intimate confession of anger, longing, identity, and self-love. Self-recorded and produced, each song caps at 2 minutes – an homage to life’s fleeting moments that have their roots in one’s otherness, as well as a response to the fast-paced listening and recording culture of our time.”

Today we have the pleasure of premiering a video for the sixth track off the album titled ‘Please Say Hello To Me’. The video was filmed and produced by Anuka and Sopo Ramischwili-Schäfer, “London based filmmakers whom Koloyan has known since childhood. With dreamlike static shots and tableaus, the video reflects the alien-like isolation felt by immigrants when returning to a home that’s theirs on paper but not in spirit…”

Check out the video below. The album is available here: https://sonakoloyan.bandcamp.com/album/pity-party

A viewing of the “Please Say Hello To Me” video will be held on November 17th, 2019 at the Matchstick Piehouse, followed by a live performance of Pity Party, where most of the songs will be performed for the first time. For more event details go here.
