Heavy, guitar-driven psychedelia is one of those sub-genres that seem never to go away, even though quite a few critics predicted that it would die a terrible and quick death.

Still, any and all forms of that sound survived decades and seem to be thriving along the way. Whatever the appeal is, it is probably well connected to artists that can connect to that sound correctly and present instrumental and vocal abilities that keep on appealing to a wide range of audiences.

This is where hard psych trio Dommengang come in with their latest album Wished Eye. Guitarist Dan “Sig” Wilson shows that he not only knows his guitar(s) inside out but that he can squeal, excruciate or extract any sound from his guitar he wishes and set it within the rhythm section of Bassist Brian Markham and drummer Adam Bulgasem, who doesn’t seem to miss a beat on the nine tracks here.

Is it the standard hard psych that many fans of the sound are so familiar and fond of? Of course, it is, but, then, that is exactly the point with Dommengang, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, on the contrary, because the trio does it so well here. All you can say to them is – keep on going!
