I attended The Story So Far concert at SWG3 in Glasgow on the 28th of October, on their “I want to disappear in the UK/EU tour”.
I have been impatiently waiting for their return to Scotland since last August, when they opened for Blink-182, and I was clearly not the only one. As soon as the band walked on stage and opened with ‘Big Blind’ – a song from their last album, the crowd became ecstatic.
The Californian band played a sold out show and their set was composed of 13 old and new songs. The band became a staple in the pop-punk genre with their album Under Soil and Dirt, and after 13 years, Parker Cannon demonstrated that he still has those amazing vocals that make The Story So Far recognisable.
The crowd went wild from the moment Kevin Geyer (guitarist) started playing the chords to their hit ‘Things I Can’t Change’. The room was buzzing with excitement, mosh pits opened up, individuals getting lifted up to crowd surf, the energy was spreading like wildfire.
Truthfully, the crowd MADE the show; The band sounded absolutely incredible, you could hear how clean and crisp their sound is, from ballads to the more energised hits, but I must say that their presence on stage is barely remarkable. For a pop-punk band I did not expect them to be so static…
They kept playing song after song with very little interaction with the crowd. Parker mentioned the background for the song ‘White shores’ and then proceeded to sing with his hands in his pocket, at some point I believed seeing Liam Gallagher on stage and not Parker Cannon, you know exactly what stance I’m talking about.
But if this helped him to have the most clean vocals that anyone could have, then why not?
After the emotional ballad, ‘White Shore’, the band walked off and came back for one final song, ‘Quicksand’. Chaos in the crowd erupted and another and final mosh pit opened up and I must say that I gladly took part in it. Feeling the energy of the crowd, I let myself get swept away and taken back to my younger years where I used to moshpit to that exact song.
Overall, this was an incredible and exciting show to take part in. If you are going with an expectation to see a pop-punk band having a blast on stage, you will be disappointed. However if you are wanting to listen to some of your favourite songs live while bouncing about in a crowd, I would absolutely suggest you to book a ticket to go and see The Story So Far live.
