Weltesser – Crestfallen

Weltesser know how to write riffs, horrid, off kilter riffs that have a real unsettling quality. ‘Crestfallen’ is fucking awesome!

Geist / Sunlight’s Bane – Split

This is what you want from a split 7”, it’s direct and it’s a great contrast between the two bands. Both bands definitely deserve your attention and support, as do the labels that put this together. – By Fraser Samson

Plebeian Grandstand – False Highs, True Lows

‘False Highs, True Lows’ is an unrelenting sonic landscape, bleak, beautiful and captivating from the first bar of the intro to the last bar of spoken vocal at its end. Plebeian Grandstand do not seem content with just making extreme metal, instead they are merging genres and breaking out of its confines. – By Fraser Samson

Sunwølf – Eve (Review + Interview)

‘Eve’ is incredible. There is still plenty to satisfy existing fans of Sunwølf, but I truly believe that this album will see the band enjoy the recognition they are deserving of. It is only March but you will be hard pushed to find a better record this year. – By Fraser Samson

Seven Sisters of Sleep – Ezekiel’s Hags

‘Ezekiel’s Hags’ is the sound of a band comfortable in their own skin, but in no way resting on their laurels. It is the sound of a band not afraid to challenge themselves creatively, with impressive results. – By Fraser Samson

Serial Hawk – Searching For Light

This record really does deserve your time. I almost feel bad for the band having to write a follow up. – By Fraser Samson

Moloch / Lich – Split

This split is absolutely essential. Do yourself a favour, support Dry Cough, Vetala or Vendetta records and pick up a copy. Bang over imminent. – By Fraser Samson

Bismuth – Unavailing

‘Unavailing’ is a record that will take me a while to get over and leaves me with absolutely no doubt that this is the benchmark which all other heavy bands should aim for. All hail Bismuth. – By Fraser Samson

Jenny Hval – Apocalypse, Girl

Hval is doing things entirely on her own terms and in the process is exorcising something within herself. Apocalypse, Girl is a focused and challenging listen and one that I highly recommend giving your time to. By Fraser Samson

KEN mode – Success

This is a very bold record for KEN mode to make given how well received their last one was, both in their native Canada and also further a field, one which sees them leave their metal leanings behind them in search of something a little more diverse and interesting. – By Fraser Samson
