Sometimes you click on the play button to write a review and just do not want to know what’s going to happen. You’ve been through promo after promo after promo… You get my point. Unmothered, I fucking love you. Thank you for allowing me to hit the play button then not wanting to throw my battle axe across the room. Well, I did want to set my table ablaze, but that would have been a joyful pyre.
So what has me all ready to destroy shit? Opening track ‘Gravitons’ comes in like a marching battalion and then they stop and point their weapons at me and join me in a head bang. Not a regular head bang, a waits up head band. The vocals of Mike Walker (also plays guitar) are raspy and could use a few less cigarettes. Perfect. ‘The Awakening’ has some crushing headbang moments, the opening minute alone throwing your body around. When all three get in sync for a (this is not a fucking breakdown) demolition of sound, they bring it. Drums sitting right in the mix, bass in a perfect spot if you pay attention and the guitars don’t become over powering. ‘Solstice’ follows this rule as well, Going from jam session to sludged out, to doom and then some southern-ish(just a tad) sound. They’re from Texas; it was bound to show up at some time.
Not ones to kick you in the junk right away, ‘Dark Entry’ Rolls in and then crushes with their sludged out random noise. It may sound confusing, but this entire song will have you headbanging the whole time. True body rocker, hot damn. Where ‘Leviathan’ is a bit dissonant and echoes with anxiety laced guitars, it s follow up track ‘Spectre’ , the band just wants to rock an roll, albeit with a little southern mud smeared on it. The solo fits perfect too. I don’t like doing band comparisons that much, try to stray from it. But even hear a tiny bit of Clutch in that song and that is a compliment. Closing up shop with ‘Trancendor’, I was a bit tripped out for the first few minutes. A sudden burst of waves, then a DMT trip I’d not prepared for, then the raspy hardcore-sludge and finally a pounding, and chugging barrage that gives way to manic guitars and slides out. Album over, hit repeat.
