New kids on the block Incitement hail from Poland and bring a real dark and bitter strain of metallic hardcore with them. After a demo brimming with promise, these guys have well and truly landed on their feet with their first 5 track EP Hyena.
Exactly as dark and menacing as the cover art looks, Hyena rumbles in with ‘Unmasked’ like a thick bank of fog that completely envelopes you before snarling into the real action. ‘Touch’ follows up with a sharp yet thudding approach leaving you subconsciously balling your fists and glaring around the room like some kind of nutter (perhaps that’s just me- that’s how my face feels right now anyway). ‘Judge’ is equally as hefty and muscle-clenchingly good with a more melodic and elevated stretch midway through.
Can this get much better? Well, yes, as the opening bars of ‘Serpentine’ will make you want to destroy all of the things with the energy you’ve just indirectly summoned from Satan. For a five track EP, this release seems to last a lot longer than you’d expect, not particularly down to song length, but the buzzing sense of excitement it will make you feel throughout. ‘Isolated’ decisively draws this gem of an EP to a close with a final blast of dynamism leaving your bones shaking in rapture.
Teeth-grittingly provocative, monolithic and unequivocally cataclysmic, Hyena is absolutely unrelenting from start to finish. Excited doesn’t even begin to cover how this record makes me feel, and if you’re looking for something new to rear it’s head on the hardcore scene, this is well and truly it.
