It’s a Tuesday evening in Camden Town and German rockers Zodiac have rolled into town in support of their latest album Sonic Child. However, London didn’t get the memo as upon entering the hallowed Camden Underworld there are approximately 30 people knocking about. Sometimes these gigs are the most fun if everyone is up for it, so on with the show.

First up – local lads Beardmore take the stage (and yes they all committed wearers of the beard) and promptly waste no time in laying down some serious grooves with opening track ‘Cut The Bone’ peddling a heavy blues sound that references Clutch a hell of a lot (which is always a winner to these ears) and just as tightly played. Although the crowd is initially sparse, they steadily draw themselves in from the bar to show increasing appreciation as the band rollick though their half hour set in a flurry of RIFFS with increasing conviction.

New fan made. Chatting to their merch lady later that evening revealed the surprising nugget of truth – it is only their fourth ever show, impressive! Good things should come to them.

Zodiac seem initially perturbed by the lack of crowd numbers and noise when they walk on stage. This becomes increasingly evident when they run through a somewhat hesitant ‘Swinging On The Run’ but the enthusiastic response they receive when the song finishes gives them a lift. Their follow up song ‘Sonic Child’ is certainly played with more verve, and from here on in they get on a roll and rattle through their hour plus set, increasing audience enthusiasm. The biggest cheer of the evening is for the unveiling of their Neil Young cover ‘Coretz The Killer’.

The uber funky ‘Just Music’ closes out the the main set, and after a quick encore break they finish off proceedings with the epic ‘Coming Home’. Those in attendance all leave with smiles on there faces

Not one for the record books, but still a fun evening of rock n roll nonetheless.
