With a unique blend of influences deriving from the 80s’ New Wave, Soul, Trip Hop, Grunge to Cinematic Power Ballads, KOKA merges her distinct tastes into a beautiful blend between Art Pop, Indie Soul and Experimental Pop. Her vocal melodies, paired with unique synth-sounds and a changing intensity of drums and percussions, shape into complex journeys leading listeners through scenes of hope with a touch of mysticism. Her strongest influences revolve around artists such as Kate Bush, Depeche Mode, Radiohead, Portishead, Florence and the Machine, Fever Rae and more.
Like a loud empowering call, amidst the tension of the fast growing digital era, the need for relief and the uncertainty for our future, new single, ‘The Next Step’ comes at the most apt point in time as a song and a message, amidst hope the Pandemic will start to fade out from our lives.
KOKA writes: “I wrote the song back in 2017 when I was still active in my past career of an architect and was seeking relief in personal growth and meditation. When I was becoming aware that hard work and internal struggle do not lead to fulfilment; that finding meaning in our lives is definitely what we all long for, but so often no-one cares what our inner purpose in this life is. What dreams and talents did we come equipped with and are responsible for? The power in the practice of trust and a good feeling place started to change my life. So, the entire song and the lyrics came out just like that.”
Based in Berlin, KOKA continues to work on her debut album which will be released in early 2022.
