Athenian instrumental band we.own.the.sky will be self-releasing their 2nd full-length album titled Home on November 1st. The album is made up of nine incredible tracks that center around the underlying theme of Home. As it states in the band’s press release, “In the troubling times we live in, “Home” stands for the things we hold dear to our heart, that we consider a safe haven.”
We caught up with the band and asked them to pick three albums that have influenced them and their music. Below are their picks.

CASPIAN – TERTIA
Caspian are in a league of their own when it comes to the so-called “post-rock” niche. Tertia is, in my humble opinion, their major turning
point, the album that cemented their place as modern instrumental rock pioneers. There’s great vision behind every single aspect of the record, from the artwork to the titles and instrumentation. The heavy atmospheres and guitar textures on this one have been a great influence on our sound from the get-go. You don’t come across heavy-hitters such as ‘Malacoda’ and ‘The Raven’ every day in this kind of music. Opening for them back in 2014 here in Athens was a dream come true, especially joining them on stage for the epic drum-circle of ‘Sycamore’. Tertia is definitely an album every post-rock fan should check out.
CIRCA SURVIVE – BLUE SKY NOISE
Now this is a band that knows how to write the BEST lead guitars. Me and Kostas have often compared our approach to lead guitar to that of Circa’s. Their guitar work is always to the point, soft and melodic when it wishes to and frantic when the song calls for it. ‘Frozen Creek’ and ‘Get Out’ are great examples of their diverse sonic palettes. One needs to also commend Anthony Green for putting his stamp all over Circa’s sound; just check out his insane performance on this or pretty much any other record. Stunning.
KILLSWITCH ENGAGE – AS DAYLIGHT DIES
KSE is a band that few people would think is an influence on us and understandably so. However, once you look past the metalcore facade, you’ll find KSE is a deeply melodic band, with epic guitar leads and killer riffs, both things we’ve strived to enrich our music with from the very beginning of WOTS. It’s kind of hard to write hooks in post-rock music, but this record is among the ones we try to channel when we want to achieve just that, asking ourselves “what would Adam and co. do?”. As Daylight Dies is full of killer tracks that are both heavy and catchy and there’s been one too many occasions where we’ve jammed ‘Arms of Sorrow’ or ‘This Fire’ at the practice space. Also, INSANE guitar tones please and thank you.
