Heralded as one of the most cerebral and psychedelic audio/visual sensory experiences in the realms of the current extreme music scene, Ufomammut has worked tirelessly for twenty years since their formation in 1999. The trio – founded by Poia, Urlo, and Vita, a lineup which has remained solid to this day – was formed in a small room in the middle of nowhere in the Italian countryside province of Alessandria. Their goal was simply to survive the boredom of living in a small town, while also hoping to reach other listeners all around the globe. This September Ufomammut shall release a special boxed set in CD and LP formats as a celebration of their 20 years as a band.
The boxed set shall include nine Ufomammut albums, all individually housed in sleeves with exclusive cover artworks, created specifically for this release. The box sets will include all eight studio albums; Godlike Snake, Snailking, Lucifer Song, Idolum, Eve, Oro, Ecate, and 8. Additionally, the box will include a new release, titled XX.
This new recording features six revisited tracks – ‘Satan’, ‘Plouton’, ‘Lacrimosa’, ‘Infearnatural’, ‘Mars’ and ‘Destroyer’ – which were re-recorded during the band’s recent European tour. The band comments: “We thought it would be great to celebrate our 20 years as a band with something different. We wanted to collect all our music in one single place but also wanted to do something that we have never done before. We decided to play a different version of some of our songs, and from these experimentations, an “acoustic side” emerged. We’re very proud of the result. It was amazing to share these songs with all the people that are following us since the beginning. This is a gift for all of them and also a chance for us to reflect positively on what we’ve been creating during these long 20 years.”
The band now premieres the video for the track ‘Mars’ by Stefano Tocci on which they’ve commented: “The video is just a collection of moments of the spring tour when we recorded XX live. We spent 10 days on the road last spring, focusing our live show on the recordings of XX, an acoustic set based on 6 songs from our 20 years career, revisited in a new way. Urlo decided to play synth on stage, Poia took his acoustic guitar and Vita embarked on a different approach via the drumkit. Gig after gig the songs grew inside us and the reaction from the people made us so proud and happy of what we were doing. XX is the witness of this little tour and of the warmness people gave us while we were approaching on our music in a very different way. XX is something magick, something different and unique for us.”
Ufomammut have announced further European touring for later in the year, surrounded by one-off festival performances this summer, two gigs in Russia this September, with more tour dates to be announced over the months ahead, as the band celebrates their 20th Anniversary with their fans.
