Mountainscape are a three-piece post metal band hailing from Reading. formed in mid 2019 after having played together in previous projects. A big drive behind starting the band was writing music without adhering to boundaries.
Acceptance is a blend of dark cinematic post-metal that weaves together clean melancholic sections with memorable riffs and hypnotic climaxes. Drawing influence from ambient, film scores, black metal, sludge, doom and post-rock. The first track on the album, ‘Wilderness’ was the first piece written by Dan in 2018 for a new project that would become Mountainscape. At the time the Scrivener brothers Dan and James had discussed starting a band in which they could explore their love of the various post-genres without having any set boundaries of what it should sound like. They had previously played in a number of black metal bands together and while Acceptance still contains elements of black metal the pull towards writing songs that could surpass genre boundaries was a driving force in making the album. A lot of the material centres around looping ideas as it was decided early on that Mountainscape would be a three-piece with live looping when performing. The instrumental nature of the music allows space for layers of reverb washed guitar to soar atop a mixture of clean melodic sections and crushing riffs.
To date, Mountainscape have supported Tides from Nebula and The Moth Gatherer in London and had a support slot for Telepathy on their tour for Burn Embrace, before Covid hit.
Mountainscape is:
Dan Scrivener – Guitars
