Stone Flute by Galecstasy

Close followers of all things psych/space rock might be familiar with the experimental/drone duo Galecstasy, who have so far produced a range of releases (they love their cassettes) on Bandcamp.

This time around, they have come up with another such release, (their third studio album proper) Stone Flute, comprised of two elongated, spaced-out improvisations, something duo members, Primary Mystical Experience and Raquel Bell usually excel at.

Again conceived as a dual set of improvisations, the album was conceived and recorded in and around  Joshua Tree National Park with the aim of having a 360-degree view of the stars at night. At the same time, to be fully inspired, the duo would involve waiting for the full moon to rise and then driving into the national park after dark. They would turn off the headlights of the car and drive slowly through the alien landscape lit up by the moon.

Transforming such experiences into viable music is not as easy as it might seem to some, but the duo’s experience with their synths setups and creative recording techniques definitely work in their favour here, because their spaced-out sound gets that third dimension so necessary for such music to work.
