Citizend, a duo hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden, is excited to unveil their debut concept EP, The Spiral. Teaming up with heavyweight champions Majestic Mountain Records, Citizend is set to move the boundaries between Americana, post-rock and post-metal.
Citizend consists of Emil Gustavsson (ex Orochen) and multi-instrumentalist and producer Otto Nilsson. The duo has come together with a common vision to break barriers between classical genre descriptions, where music is intertwined with themes and concepts – all to let storytelling take as much space as possible.
As the world teeters on the brink of an uncertain future, Citizend makes their debut on the music scene with their EP, The Spiral. This conceptual journey spans a lifetime, unfolding just before the world meets its end. The narrative delves deep into an individual’s thoughts and experiences about the impending apocalypse, from the beginning to the end. This conceptual journey through life’s twists and turns now continues with the release of their third single, ‘Grinding Bones’.
‘Grinding Bones’ captures the relentless pressures of life, illustrating the intense labour – both physical and mental—required to navigate its challenges. This track is a testament to managing uncertainty and obscurity in the quest for balance amidst life’s struggles. The soundscape in ‘Grinding Bones’ is heavily influenced by stoner rock acts like Queens of the Stone Age, while also drawing inspiration from alt-country icons like Wovenhand. With a catchy chorus, the track melds tribal sounds with more “clenched fist” elements, making it a heavy hitter in Citizend’s discography.
The Spiral EP unfolds as a multi-faceted exploration of life’s journey, from inception to conclusion and will be released with heavy-weight champions Majestic Mountain Records. With five singles slated for release monthly from August to December, Citizend invites audiences to join them on this transformative musical odyssey.
