Featuring 10 artists spanning genres from indie rock to electro pop, long time E&D faves, independent and ethical record label Reckless Yes is marking their return after a 2 year hiatus with compilation Among The Wildflowers. Give the full album an exclusive listen here on Echoes and Dust.
Run by musician Pete Darrington (Cable, The Hudson Super 6, GodNo!, The Incomprehensible Static, Electric Pets) and music journalist Sarah Lay over the last decade Reckless Yes has established itself as a home for many fine independent artists. They’ve released albums from bands including LIINES, Nervous Twitch, Fightmilk (read our reviews for debut Not With That Attitude and second album Contender), and Bugeye (our review of single Don’t Stop (Feral Five remix) here), singles from artists including Bivouac, while giving bands such as Panic Pocket their first releases.
Having taken a couple of years hiatus the label is now opening a new chapter ahead of their tenth year in business. Pete Darrington said: “A compilation seemed the obvious thing to do when we finally were able to return – we’ve both had some serious real life stuff going on that meant that we had to put the label on hold.
“So, it seemed logical that the first thing we should do is a record that would make the perfect introduction to what our little label is all about if you didn’t know us before and it could also serve to remind those fans who loved our artists and the label in general that we were still the same entity with the same values.
“Even though some of the family has changed as some artists have moved on, we’re still championing new and exciting underground music that we feel you should know about.”
Featuring artists from their long-term roster such as Chorusgirl, Grawl!x, Electric Pets, Duck, Feral Five and Hannah Rose Kessler the compilation also introduces tracks from new-to-the-label artists including Leeds-based indie rockers Tiger Island, York’s indiepoppers Knitting Circle, from-all-the-bands Charley Stone (whether full member or lending her guitar-playing live we’re talking bands like Desperate Journalist, Salad, Gay Dad, Keith Top Of The Pops and His Minor UK Indie Celebrity All-Star Backing Band and Linus) and singer songwriter S.J Thomas (who also plays in Grawl!x and has previously been part of GodNo! and Mighty Kids).
The compilation is getting a release on vinyl and CD with a fanzine-style sleevenote booklet but only a limited digital release on Bandcamp only so this exclusive stream is one of the very few places you’ll be able to hear the album online.
