Talent is not the only thing you can rely on if you want to create something, in this case music, that tries (and eventually succeeds) to push the boundaries of known and expected (at least a bit anyway). Of course, talent remains essential, but you really have to build skill and at least a modicum of experience, to have those boundaries moved in the direction they didn’t go before. It doesn’t have to be much, but defying the expected- the one that turns into ordinary is the key there.

Amsterdam,  the Netherlands multi-instrumentalist Jesper Vervoort, aka Jespfur, started such a process with his initial album Pedestrians of Bright Silence from 2024, and continues that process even further with Iftangibe, his new album offering.

Sure, we have already had a chance to hear artists and bands combine modern electronics with lo-fi textures and shoegaze with its characteristic guitar sounds. But on his new creation, Jespfur takes further steps into this territory, exploring the space and the way the specific sounds, including the vocals, can bounce off each other and create something that is not exactly expected, yet definitely works.

Taken singularly, each step Jespfur takes here should be known to the listeners, but put together, they do come up with what seems to be his intention here – create a new sound space that is uniquely his own.
