Philadelphias Timelost return with their latest album Drained and much like their previous releases, it is a triumphant collection of quirky, melodic and above all uplifting songs that melds the bands love of grunge, shoegaze, garage rock and alternative flavours.
From the get go, Drained simply explodes in a flourish of joyful noise, with the immediate bounce of ‘Lockjaw’ and their sound, which takes influence from bands such as Weezer, Smashing Pumpkins and Dinosaur Jr, is evident as you listen but with the bands own spin put on it, which they do with style and this continues throughout the record.
After that impressive opening, songs like ‘Combustion Dance’, ‘Diet Strangers’ and the perfectly titled ‘Eternal Vibe’ which undeniably sums up the this of Timelost flow by in an impressive fashion.
The album continues in style with the tracks ‘Wet J’ (a song in which the band have made a brilliant claymation video for), ‘Cranium Dent’, Lifer Debt and Another Casualty Of Me’, which all follow each other seamlessly in a definite high point of Drained. This marks the middle to the end of the album and these songs are Timelost at their best and the way that these songs are delivered with such passion and segue into each other so seamlessly is so impressive to listen to.
As the album ends with the slightly grittier ‘Permablue’, you will be in awe of the way that the songs that Timelost have just enchanted you and you will want to play it again and let it enchant you once more.
With Drained, Timelost have delivered the goods again with an album that fizzes with an infectiously positive energy and feel good vibes, although to as to the vibrant nature of Timelosts music there is a biting rawness under the current in there now and again as well, but this only adds to the albums vivacity. The main thing though is just how inspiring the album is and Timelost sound as if they are having the time of their lives playing these songs, just as the listener will as they hear them.
