Through their five album offerings, the idea behind The Pull of Autumn is to gather as many similarly-thinking artists to complement the songwriting of Daniel Darrow and the core members Bruce MacLeod, Matthew Darrow, and Luke Skyscraper James.
In that respect, there are no big changes within that general concept here on their latest Memory Tree. Yet, there is always some musical movement here this time complemented by the likes of Kraig Jordan, Philip Parfitt (The Perfect Disaster), Ricky Humphrey (This Twisted Wreckage), Berkeley singer-songwriter Sophia Campbell, and a few others.
Yet, even with such a large cast of participants, there is serious uniformity and consistency within the music here – some dark, brooding art rock or art pop, or both that has a detailed, complex ebb and flow. Darrow and the collective describe themselves the album as “a melancholy remembrance of moments in time and life”, something that just described with a few words might sound a bit too broad and general, but in essence, quite accurately describes what is going on within the twelve tracks here.
This is a set of dark, shadowy art pop songs, or compositions, if you will, suited for those melancholy twilights that just keep on happening.
