3 Tattoos & A Road Tax Bill by Röt Stewart
Release date: July 7, 2024Label: PANG PANG REC. & BRC30 Productions
During the writing of this review the Belgian hardcore punk quartet Röt Stewart supported the British grindcore legends Napalm Death at De Muziekgieterij Maastricht in the Netherlands together with their fellow countrymen Slaughter The Giant (death metal). Röt Stewart is based in Kortrijk Belgium and probably one of the best kept secrets of the Belgian hardcore punk underground scene.
So far for the enigma, Röt Stewart releases their debut LP album on vinyl (and CD), or let’s say SP (Short Player). 3 Tattoos & A Road Tax Bill contains fourteen crazy and energetic hardcore punk songs with thrash influences that reminds us of the legendary Speak English Or Die release of Stormtroopers Of Death in 1985 (yes, that was almost forty years ago).
Röt Stewart manages with their short player tsunami to stay under twelve minutes playing time. But what the hell, we can’t get enough of this intelligent album spewing and laughing with all kinds of issues occurring in our wacked out society. Wölf Stewart (vocals), Jah Nick Rötbeck (guitar), Rötsomer (bass) and Clint M.K. Rötwood (drums) do have a strong live reputation but they get bored very soon, that’s why they want to kick ass in a very short period of time.
3 Tattoos & A Road Tax Bill is intensively brief with striking and humoristic songs like ‘Digital Masturbation’, ‘Fuck That Weak Shit’ (the local warrior song of the punk cave The Pit’s in Kortrijk), ‘Paypal Penpal’ and ‘Funky Fungus’. Röt Stewart doesn’t care about the outside world and smashes everything to pieces with passion. 3 Tattoos & A Road Tax Bill plays on our device continuously, no matter what happens or what kind of mood we have.
