Alt-Rock band Moulettes present their latest album experience Constellations, a brilliant album featuring wonderful instrumentation that will please fans of a variety of genres. On their latest effort, Moulettes offer up a varied palette of alternative-rock tunes, featuring an intriguing range of styles and techniques. A cinematic element runs throughout the album, anchoring everything into place as we progress along the story Moulettes have presented on their latest album effort. Much of the bands' efforts are rather admirable, though certain elements featured in the album have perhaps faulted the album to a certain degree.
Constellations opens up to a medley of instrumentals, combining elements of varying genres to great effect. Most songs seem to follow a specific musical structure that Moulettes have set down, though within that structure in the various tracks is something that is quite different and enjoyable. At times there's a very cinematic sound to some of the songs, giving off an impression that Moulettes have placed a great amount of their emphasis on how the songs sound and are presented on the album. For the most part it works rather well, with 'Constellations' featuring some well written and well orchestrated songs.
Although Moulettes have pushed themselves on their latest record, really working to create a great album, it seems the album falters on a few occasions. Variety and creativity is present on the record, but most of the tracks (especially in the first half of the record) don't seem to add up to much. A couple of the tracks on the record seem to sound rather repetitive and far too similar to each other to warrant placement on the record itself. Considering the lengths Moulettes have gone to make their music as strong as they can, it's a shame that not all their efforts have paid off.
Constellations is enjoyable on many levels, but as an album it's perhaps a little too flawed in places to make it a truly great album. Whilst one can appreciate the lengths Moulettes have gone for to make their latest work a varied and well-sounding music experience, it seems that all the efforts haven't resulted in a strong album experience. Certain tracks present on the record suggest some great talent and craftsmanship from the band, though why this hasn't translated well into presenting one complete album experience is anybody's guess.
