Wedding by Conic Rose

Label: Self-Released

The days of streaming services should make it easy for independent releases to reach a wider audience, yet that just might be the opposite – the availability of so much music can make it easy for some great releases to slip silently by listeners’ ears.

Heller Tag, the first independent release by Berlin trio Conic Rose (Konstantin Döben, Johannes Arzberger, Bertram Burkert) caught the ears of Gilles Peterson, Lauren Laverne and Nemone among others, but it seems that it slipped by quite a number of listeners in the wider audience. Now the trio has come up with their second independent release, simply titled Wedding. How will they manage it this time around?

Those a bit closer to the music ongoings will probably catch on with ease, and hopefully a wider audience will too, particularly that part of it that favours a jazzy take on modern soul, R&B splashed with electronic undercurrents, and alt rock elements, as the simply-titled ‘Wedding’ is much more than just simple.

And yes, the title just might be fitting, as Conic Rose, and guests here do successfully ‘wed’ a number of different musical streams seemingly without flinching, doing it the hard way – making complex things sound easy going and fluid as a clear and clean river stream in the summertime.

It seems that Conic Rose has further perfected their craft of bringing some fresh air to current modern jazz trends.
