Thrash metal, it was pretty good in the 80’s when people were doing it for the first time, but these days it’s all pretty dire. There are exceptions, Municipal Waste really delivered on a couple of albums but in general, if someone calls themselves a thrash band, chances are they are completely terrible. However, a band named Oozing Wound have emerged from Chicago, who are NOT on a mission to change our perceptions of thrash (they could not give a fuck about that), but to just be an incredible rock band who do what they want, when they want and they do that with fucking abundance on their new album Earth Suck, which is being released by the ever dependable Thrill Jockey in October.

The first track ‘Going Through The Motions Till I Die’ has some delicious quirky guitars before a kick ass build up and when they fully fire up, it becomes a machine which is attacking the Earth with pure fucking viciousness. They are an extremely angry band, but not scary angry, they channel it differently so it’s fun. They are like the Andrew WK of being angry, you could put it on at a house party and all your passable mates would fist pump until they blacked out. It’s not the most diverse album in the world but Oozing Wound would make no apologies for that, they’ve got their sound nailed down to a fine art. They do manage to throw in the odd surprise now and again, but it’s subtle and you only start to spot them on multiple listens, just like any good album.

That’s all that needs to be said really, no need to fuck about whatsoever. If you want to hear a dynamic band that are really on top of their game and just about the take over the world, grab a copy. They are pretty unique but if you are love shit like Big Business and Black Cobra then you will lap this the fuck up, if you don’t like those bands please stop reading my reviews, you complete arsehole. This feels like an album that’s real, not a band trying to play thrash music but just playing what comes naturally, like some kind of primal calling. All that’s left to tell you is the last 2 minutes and 45 minutes of this record is the best thing ever created, not just musically, but all things. Get wounded people, get wounded at once!
