Ghost Horizon are from Phoenix, Arizona and they create atmospheric black metal which will please fans of Alcest, Wolves in the Throne Room and Alcest.
The band was formed by ex-Severed Receptors and Psychobliss guitarist Dan Stollings this past year. After a few ups and downs with recruiting other members, Stollings chose to reach out to a former bandmate: Uræus, in his view the best possible vocalist for the band. With a stroke of luck, Uræus agreed to contribute to the cause. With the core foundation of the music set, Uræus went on to write and record the drums as well as the vocals.
Dan (guitars/bass) said this about the band and the EP:
“Ghost Horizon, to me, is everything I ever wanted in a band. I can express both my anger/depression and happiness to whatever degree I wish, while also allowing the two opposite emotions to marry. When I wrote the songs on Astral Possession, the ebb and flow of the songs are a direct translation of how I felt at the very moment I wrote it. Working with Uræus on this EP has been amazing, because he has an uncanny ability to understand what I’m trying to say musically, without saying a single word to him about it.”
Uræus (vocals/drums/additional music) said this about the band and album:
“The emotion, passion and subject matter wasn’t something we planned in any sense of the word. The music heard on this EP took on a life of its own during production, capturing soundscapes and words that we hadn’t expected to manifest. In short, the production was more a journey of the self than anything else.”
Astral Possession will be released on February 26th and is available for pre-order through here. Listen to the exclusive stream of the whole EP here:
