Glasgow solo artist Wullae Wright is in the process of writing and recording his fourth album and if this single 'UFO' is an indicative taste I'm keen to hear the result, although I suspect it will be a bit of a wait. He appears to create when it happens rather than forcing it in a period of writing, which seems to be working for him.

The song builds gently from slow arpeggios and synth strings that calm and sooth before launching into a raw and tense chorus with a great air of angst. Rather than rely on one element to create that contrast and shift, Wright blends variations in pace, instrumentation, vocals, volume and production that work together to create the light and shade.

There is plenty of passion and character to the slightly nasally and warbling vocals – more that you often find at the higher end on male singers. Dare I say a bit Jeff Buckley a couple of tones lower.

It's a long song for this style but avoids feeling like it's going over the same old ground time and time again with enough surprises and variation thrown in. In all a tidy song that should easily find a slot on your indie pop mix tape.
