Red Fang – Whales and Leeches

Red Fang aren’t reinventing the wheel or pushing that many boundaries really but if you write songs of this quality then there is no need. – By Richard Collins

Fuzz – Fuzz

Just like everything I’ve heard from Ty Segall, Fuzz are a triumph. – By Richard Collins

Trippy Wicked and the Cosmic Children of the Knight – Underground

Most importantly the riffs are awesome so what more do you need? – By Richard Collins

Live: Ufomammut @ The Camden Underworld, London. 3rd October 2013

The atmosphere is insane, if anyone in the room wasn’t feeling it on some kind of ridiculous level then I will eat an Orange amp. Set list wise it really was a magical journey across the albums but none of this matters though, the main point is that this band creates another world when they play together. By Rich Collins

Earthless – From the Ages

Earthless have just gone and done it again and if you love music that jams then this record is absolutely essential. – By Richard Collins

Teeth Of The Sea – Master

When listening to Master it almost feels like kraut rock has been revived and brought bang up to date, like these four chaps have grabbed it by the nuts and showed us what we should be listening to in 2013. By Rich Collins

Interview: Julian Dicken from The Cosmic Dead

The Cosmic Dead is one of the UK’s best known psychedelic space rock bands at the moment. The four piece from Glasgow has been producing release after release and touring extensively, including a great show at the Roadburn festival. Richard Collins caught up with drummer Julian Dicken.

Monomyth – Monomyth

There isn’t a dud track on this album, all 5 lengthy numbers really deliver and keep taking you on a rather joyful little voyage. – By Richard Collins

Beast in the Field – The Sacred Above, The Sacred Below

Two guys just playing nasty doom riff combos until your brain melts. – By Richard Collins

Årabrot – Årabrot

This album is huge, an out and out masterpiece and don’t do anything silly like not buying it. – By Richard Collins

Haust – NO

If you are after a nasty slice of punk rock pie, which can be hard to find in 2013, I would recommend you get this vicious little album. – By Richard Collins

Dark Buddha Rising – Dakhmandal

Whilst Dakhamandal isn’t the complete polished package, I would fully recommend this to anyone who enjoys doom, sludge, stoner etc. – By Richard Collins

Toner Low – III

If a chaos filled voyage where you get to tame a huge doom monster sounds like your thing then get this record. It’s awesome! – By Richard Collins

The Cosmic Dead – Inner Sanctum

My advice would be buy this release and escape this world for an hour and a bit, as the one The Cosmic Dead have created is much more fun. – By Richard Collins

Dethscalator – Racial Golf Course, No Bitches

It’s not a particularly revolutionary offering but it does throw heavy fuzz filled jams at you which will keep most noise rock fans entertained. – By Richard Collins

Interview: Lesbian

Seattle based doom, psychedelic shroom metal band Lesbian is about to release their new album Forestelevision, which is one huge and epic 44 minute long cosmic space trip. Richard Collins reviewed the album and reckons it’ll end up on his Album of the Year list. He asked the band a bunch of questions about the new album, shrooms, side projects and other things.

Lesbian – Forestelevision

Instead of a metal album written by four musicians, I believe that Forestelevision has been swirling somewhere in the cosmos in some intangible form since the dawn of time which needed to be unlocked and channelled by Lesbian so it could be experienced by us mere mortals. – By Richard Collins

Vodun – Eat Up The Sun

Vodun continues where previous band Invasion left, producing catchy pop songs with stupidly sludgy guitars matched with quirky drums and deliciously dreamy vocals. – By Richard Collins

Fat White Family – Champagne Holocaust

I never listen to new bands and hope they were ‘the next big thing’ but I kind of feel this about these gents. Champagne Holocaust feels like the real deal and with the mainstream music scene is as crushingly boring as it’s ever been, there has been no better time for a genuinely nasty band to come and give the mainstream a hard kick in its deserving arse! By rich Collins

Live: Eternal Tapestry & Hey Colossus at Corsica Studios, London. 16th April 2013

Another top night put on by Baba Yaga’s Hut, they really are putting on some mind melting gigs so my advice would be to get down to Elephant and Castle at the next opportunity and fill your brain with trippy wonder. By Richard Collins

Pombagira – Maleficia Lamiah

I think this album is a bold move by Pombagira, a clear attempt to escape the label of a ‘doom band’ and create something that has never been heard before. This attitude has to be admired but sadly I don’t think there is quite enough substance in ‘Maleficia Lamiah’ to live long in the memory. – By Richard Collins
