Domestic Genocide

When it comes to creating bleak, dismal and isolating music, Outer Gods take all that and make it even worse. The music here is great, a more than solid black drone that is comprised of guitars, synths and keyboards. The mixed in samples add to the aura that engulf the listener and sends chills down their spine. ‘Future Decay’ echoes and punishes you while you can’t help but turn the volume up to feel the swells of music. The soundscapes it projects lead into ‘Due Sabatti’, another (dark) scenic ride. Both songs may not make much sense by themselves, but hold on a bit, I’ll get to that.

While the first two tracks have a bleak yet spacey feeling to them, Outer Gods’ two members The Flail (guitars/keyboards) and The Wrathe (electronics/synthesizers), unleash an entirely different beast on tracks 'Beyond the Crimson Gate’ and ‘Blessed Be the Host of Sorrow’. Both tracks combined are nearly 30 minutes (over half the album) of bowel shaking, distorted destruction. ‘Beyond…’ is a churner, repetitive and true to the term “drone”. The samples that pop up are a bit unnerving, giving you those spine chills that I mentioned. ‘Blessed Be…’ is vicious, pushing what some people define as drone to the limits in places. But the volume and outright attack of what the volume contains, it’s downright punishing. One can’t help but want to shield their ears, but instead turn the volume up and it overtake your senses (Insert favorite expletive here).

‘From Behind The Walls, She Heard a Voice Like an Angel’ opens and closes with samples that add to the track and close the album out on a great note. In-between there you’ll hear a wall of haunting echoes and deranged electronics. Sounds seem like they can (and sometimes do) fly out of nowhere, but they all fit perfectly. I mentioned earlier that the first two songs didn’t make much sense alone as individual songs. All the songs here are great, truly. They just need to be played straight through. I’m not saying you wouldn’t enjoy the songs as stand alone tracks, but each song mixes and flows with the next, and deserve to be taken that way. Had Outer Gods made this album a single track I wouldn’t question it for a minute. Light Dims Eternal is dark, drone music. And it deserves to be heard. Your eardrums with hate you, but your heart will love every minute of it.
