Out now through Bandcamp and Eternal Death Records (7")

As I start to write this review, I am only into the 2nd song and I’m already hooked. Sangus' new release Saevitia brings together powerviolence and black metal in a totally crusty way. Got that?

So, what I am trying to say here is that the sound is really unique. I love black metal, powerviolence, crust, blackened crust, metal, crust metal violence (?) all of that...but when it comes together, it’s just super powerful. I really dig the guitars, the drums, and the vocals. I would say that the vocals might be my favorite part. It’s versatile and goes with the music perfectly. Also, the cover is pretty rad. It’s a cheesy picture of a dude fighting a tiger. There isn’t much I can really pick apart and say I don’t like, except that I wish the release had 1 or 2 more songs.

Saevitia could be an album for a bunch of different kinds of people who all like different kinds of metal. It doesn’t stick to one niche sound so it creates a likability that I could see reaching over a large crowd. If you are into dark, fast, sludgy, crusty, metal of any kind…I will recommend you checking this release out.

The album is about less than 15 minutes, with the last song at almost 6 minutes is a wall of white/black/distortion noise that sounds like a nuclear bomb. I think it’s a great way to end an album and create a bit of a lasting, spooky effect.

So all in all, I’m giving Saevitia an A-. Definitely check it out, and if Sangus happens to come to your town, don’t miss out.

PS - I'm going to stick with the name "crust metal violence" for the genre. I hope I see more of it because I'm really into it.
