There are some bands who are pioneering into sounds and mixes of genres that no one has crossed before. Bands who are looking for their distinct sound to step away from a crowd and carve a niche.

Haust is one of those bands. They mix black metal vocals with a hardcore garage sound. Huge drums, a rolling thunder bass and psychedelic slangy guitar. Haust, being from Norway, is really stepping out of the genre of any form of extreme music and making a place for themselves. Unfortunately, I think that place is only for them and no one would tag along.

Their album, Bodies, is really a rock and roll album. A rock and roll album that is kind of boring. It is the same formula which I have heard every other rock and roll group that plays on Tuesday nights to a no one crowd here in Austin, Texas. But at least here you will have one dollar tall boys.

Haust has four other albums out, which I can’t believe, and reading some of those reviews as well this band hasn’t had a good album.

As a rock album, I guess it is solid. The production is done well, the guitar, bass, and drums are performed well, the singing…meh, but this album really doesn’t do it for me at all. I am a fan of old school hardcore (Pissed Jeans, UnWound, Melt Banana, etc), but this band is not them. Haust is vanilla and Bodies is an album that is easily forgettable.
