It is the season again, the warm air and long nights are here and the city of Austin, Texas is slowly kicking off its festival time of year. I really enjoy this time of year, for the Austin it is really the time when a lot of great acts come through.
T
he great people at Come and Take It Productions put on another great weekend with their annual Texas Independence Fest. The fest took place in Empire Control Room, again a great venue off Red River and nicely apart from the hustle of the downtown 6th Street crowd. This was my first time at both this event – The Texas Independence Fest went on the year prior as well- and the venue. It was really enjoyable. The venue was great with two stages going and Come and Take it really did it right by staggering the performances on both stages so you can get the full metal mayhem all the bands had to offer.
The lineup was also stellar, with headline names such as Between the Buried and Me, The Atlas Moth, Whitechapel, Oceano, the brutal death metal
Vital Remains, Sworn enemy, Corrosion of Conformity, and Cavalera Conspiracy. It was an onslaught of heavy and extreme music for all your two-step and flying kick dancing needs. All the bands really put on a great show and really rocked it out. I was especially blown away by Vital Remains! They have been putting in work in the death metal scene since the late eighties and still are going huge at shows! Even better was to hear from the band that they are going to put out a new album.
I was overwhelmed by the friendly staff at every merch booth who took a little time to talk about what bands they were looking forward to, other of what local band they were representing and where they were from. Even the food truck, which I need to give a shout out to, Gibroni’s Texitalican Kitchen, who had the best sandwich I have ever had at a show.
Good times where had by all, I am really excited for the upcoming festival season here in Texas. Hopefully it will be as rad as this festival was!
