Italian post-rock/metal bands RIAH and POSTVORTA will join forces to release the RIAHPSTVRT fusion and split album on March 19, 2021. The record will feature one song per band plus a collaborative suite track, and is due to be released in vinyl format via Moment Of Collapse Records, Shove Records and Fresh Outbreak Records. CDs and cassette format will be released by Trepanation Recordings.
Longtime friends Riah and Postvorta had to stop their live activities due to the pandemic. In this context they decided to join their ideas in a long suite fusing together the two bands’ souls, dreamy and ambient the former, heavy and aggressive the latter. The result is a 16-minutes long track inspired by an illustration that then became the split cover art (by Davide Brioschi), merging post-rock, post-metal and soundtrack-like avant-garde. The release is completed by one extra song from each band that has never been released on physical format. The tracks are ‘Epidermide’ by Riah, the first recording with the band’s new three-guitar line-up, and ‘Hollow’ by Postvorta, recorded with the new line-up featuring Matteo Borzini on the drums (The End of Six Thousand Years) and Mohammed Ashraf (Void of Sleep, Pie Are Squared).
While there are many bands that traverse and explore the same terrain as heavy titans Neurosis and Isis, very few of those bands embrace these influences and yet do not feel like imitators. Postvorta, the pulverizing Italiian sextet from Ravenna, are ones who incorporate a similar style to their influences but move themselves and the listener through stunning corridors of sound that feel fresh. Bringing elements of post-metal, hardcore and doom into a swirling vortex of monolithic and earth-shaking heaviness.
The band Riah was born in Bologna in November 2015 as a guitar/drums duo from an idea of Flavio Di Bella and Rocco Catturani. During October 2016 Diego Ruggeri joined the band as bass player. Drawing inspiration from different genres, the band – now a quintet with addition of moore guitars – tries to blend the typical heaviness of the post-metal and mathcore with the atmosphere and the dreamlike sensation of the post-rock and ambient.
