Sheena Dham releases the breakout single ‘I Can’t’ from her forthcoming EP, Familiarity Heuristic. ‘I Can’t’ stomps in with melismatic vocals upon its entry, grunge inspired ‘I Can’t’ is propelled by a 7/8 live drum and programmed drum groove. Dham cries over the repeated rhythm as a rant against the heartbreak that occurs with political elections in America, and gives nod to how history tends to repeat itself when we’re not paying attention to the past.

Sheena actively works with disparate instrumentation to express the complexities of our daily existence. Dham captures the machine-like elements of her drum sequencer, yet juxtaposes this with real drumming; she plays the electric guitar, yet programs elements of generative synthesis throughout the track. The goal is bleeding a balance between what is in one’s control and what isn’t.

Dham writes:“‘I Can’t’ is a driving lament that captures a level of heartbreak that can only be caused by a system rather than a being. It cries in the name of those who have ever felt disempowered or have struggled to have their voice heard.”

EP Familiarity Heuristic is released on June 14, 2024 via Psychic Eye Records and can be pre-ordered here.

Fusing raw emotion with an eclectic sound that harkens to music of past eras while propelling us into brighter future, the album captivates audiences with a fresh new sound that spans the spectrum of heartbreak to hope and engages listeners with a musical expedition through many ages and moods.

Featuring deeply harmonized, soul-stirring vocals and layered synthesis with moments of thrashing guitar and nods to a 90s upbringing, this EP is a musical exorcism that explores ten years of heartbreak and healing. The 22-minute recording is a dynamic display of Dham’s imaginative command of synth, guitar, vocals, and drum machines.
