Manifestaties van de Ontworteling by Fluisteraars
Release date: April 26, 2024Label: Eisenwald Records
The black metal band Fluisteraars (translated whisperers) has already nested itself well in the Dutch black metal scene. Manifestaties van de Ontworteling is their fourth full album and will by all means shock a broader part of the fans. After three albums filled with murky and raw blackened atmospheres Fluisteraars changes course and sails far away from the psychedelic folk-rock infused black metal roots shape shifting into an experimental electronic music album.
Fluisteraars is not the first band (or artist) of the black or death metal scene that releases an electronic album. Wolves In The Throne Room released the ambient album Celeste in 2014 and Blood Incantation changed the guitars for synths and came up with the fascinating old school electronic work Timewave Zero (2022). Even the black metal vocalists Satyr (Satyricon) and Mortuus (Marduk) have already ventured solo into the (darker) electronic music genre in the past.
Manifestaties van de Ontworteling became a dark ambient/soundscape album with a high complexity. The trio Bob Mollema, Mink Koops, and Simon Claessen used old analogue audio equipment to record the sounds under the approach route of Eindhoven Airport. With these field recordings they create a series of fascinating experimental sound structures. Manifestaties van de Ontworteling does not only reflect a mysterious glow of obscurity. Fluisteraars take the open minded listeners deeper into a whirlpool of polluted electronica, nature ambient sounds, drones, acoustical shards and ritual fragments. The band’s inspiration is fed by the fascination for nature and the ancient legends of the Veluwe, a predominantly forested region of approximately 1,000 km² in the Dutch province of Gelderland.
This album will surely be criticised for its unexpected outcome and will disappoint people. Nevertheless we think that Manifestaties van de Ontworteling is a genuine and mind-bending electronic music trip that offers a strange kind of experimental sound therapy.
