Mirrored Daughters by Mirrored Daughters

Oh what an unadulterated joy this self-titled album from Mirrored Daughters is. A combination of various weird folk artists, conjoined in an Electric Eden of collaborative noise. Almost borne of those pages of that fantastic book, an exultation of the rural against the urban. In the absence of our beloved The Left Outsides, this is surely the tonic for a bucolic spring.

All tympanic drones, and ethereal vocals, a beauty unfolds across a series of wondrous tracks which never rush, always taking their time to reveal their secrets. There are instrumental interludes, mixed with moments of sheer joy and poetry as the music sweeps you up in its reverence. For every ‘An Open Door’, all 60’s charm, or lush symphonic ‘City Song’, is a deep instrumental cut which becomes the backbone of the album.

Unruffled, unhurried, and set against an eerie undertone of old England, this is folk built on that weird Albion history. Nature playing its part against urban decay, an escape from the rigours of everyday life to a moment of brief calm and awareness of the very sounds around you. Quiet, yet loud, its stark, bewitching acoustics lulling you into a sense of natural insecurity. A minor triumph.
