Belidenisse by Monnik

Release date: April 4, 2025
Label: Consouling Sounds

We have always been fascinated by bedroom artists who explore their soulful isolation through reflections of musical creativity. It doesn’t even matter which genres their personal demons resonate in. Take Monnik (Monk), the Belgium-based experimental project of Thibaud Meiresone, for example. Belidenisse (Confessions) is Meiresone’s fifth introspective album on Consouling Sounds in a decade. Over the years, he has been quietly and carefully building an oeuvre of inner sonic pilgrimages, where ambient soundscapes, guitar, and drones are seamlessly interwoven with a shamanistic twist.

Monnik took his inspiration — and also the title for this album — from the writings of the early Christian theologian and philosopher Saint Augustine of Hippo (354–430). His insights during the reading of this influential work (Belidenisse) sublimated into three deep listening tracks. The sonic reflections of Monnik’s inner-spatial journey stimulate a deeper kind of thinking. Layer upon layer, Meiresone constructs a mysterious, meditative soundtrack, where thoughts can wander through dreamy and ritual moods, evoking questions that can hardly be answered.

Although Belidenisse immerses you in relaxing and brooding vibes, the album reveals a more fascinating depth that emerges after several listens. We recommend using headphones to fully unearth the mental sound panoramas that trigger uncharted dimensions of consciousness. With Belidenisse, Monnik releases an outstanding mindscape that guides the listener on an unbending self-reflective spiritual adventure.
