The line between shoegaze and dream pop has been blurred many times, particularly by a number of emerging U.S. bands, and to that effect, Minneapolis quintet She’s Green can be surely be counted in that group. Being somewhat dormant for a couple of years, the band is now coming up with a new 5-song EP with a somewhat familiar title of Chrysalis.
Yet, the question here is – is the sound also familiar? Ok, most of the elements vocalist Zofia Smith, guitarists Liam Armstrong and Raines Lucas, bassist Teddy Nordvold, and drummer Kevin Seebeck come up with are oh so familiar to those who follow both shoegaze and dream pop closely, but then, these days that is the case with almost all shogeaze/dreampop bands. The key point is that not only does She’s Green play these familiar sounds both effectively and gracefully, but they do shuffle them around in a manner that makes that sound quite their own and oh so appealing at the same time.
Bringing familiarity in your sound is not always a bad thing, particularly for the fans of the genre(s) and with She’s Green’s Chrysalis there is quite a bit to be joyful about.
