Outlier by Lune Asea

Release date: April 17, 2023
Label:

Lune Asea (pronounced ‘lunar sea’) is the new Aussie-prog super group from Karnivool’s Jon Stockman, Sleep Parade & The Occupants’ Leigh Davies, legendary tour manager Adam Perry and one of Perth’s most prolific guitarists, Ben Elphick.

The band have released their debut single ‘Outlier’ and at just over 5 minutes rings in a new update for Aussie-prog. The track ‘Outlier’ feels entirely reminiscent of Karnivool, Butterfly Effect, Dead Letter Circus and Cog but with a modern sheen applied.

In other words: this is not a drill people!

Jon Stockman says: “Outlier contains a good mix of the songwriting elements that we all collectively identify with. When we wrote it, we felt it showcased how we wanted to express ourselves musically in terms of the ‘dark side of the lune.’ It’s not one aspect and requires combining a continual driving pulse of rhythmic energy, re-imagining traditional song structures, exploring sound design and finding sonic layers that speak to us from a nostalgic point in our own history, and find a darker element that has jilted moments that are slightly more whimsical than sad. Looking forward to showcasing the yin to this yang.”

Production is by the masterful hand of Forrester Savell. Naturally every element is brought into perspective and focus with the perfect degree of clarity and weight. If you are able, listen with headphones to immerse yourself in the textures and tones.

In summary; if this first taste of the band’s material is anything to go by, we have a lot to look forward to!
