Transcend into Oblivion by Necrofier

Label: Metal Blade Records

It is a Tuesday afternoon; I’m going out for my afternoon walks in the warmest part of the Texas day in the Spring as my reviewing 32GB iPod touch is blaring through the death metallic power and conviction as the blood boiling becomes maximum from Houston’s own Necrofier. Formed in 2018, Necrofier have taken the metallic punch like a volcano, ready to explode out of nowhere.

Founded by members who were associated with bands such as Oceans of Slumber and Venomous Maximus which consists of guitarist/vocalist Bakka Larson, guitarist Semir Ozerkan, drummer Dobber Beverly, and bassist Mat Valentine. They had released two studio albums from 2022 to 2023 (Prophecies of Eternal Darkness and Burning Shadows in the Southern Night). Their latest album Transcend into Oblivion, is a loose cannon going out with incredible results.

Released on the Metal Blade label, Transcend into Oblivion centres on spiritual awakening, torment, and renewal. Exploring those themes has this profound punch on the three-part journey consisting of the dreams with ‘Fires of the Apocalypse, Light my Path’, the struggle to move forward those constant changes on ‘Servants of Darkness, Guide my Way’ and renewing a new chapter in your life on ‘Horns of Destruction, Lift My Blade’.

It’s one of those albums that you have to play through, whether you like it or not. It is fast, intense, melodic, and orchestral at the same time this quartet have sparked the massive fires spreading like crazy. There are moments on this album where the group could have written this album as an alternate soundtrack to the 2019 video game, Blasphemous which is set in the nightmarish world of Cvstodia.

Believe me, Transcend into Oblivion is the alternate soundtrack to that video game if you want to sync it up whilst head-banging like a mo-fo. Mind you, I’m not a death metal, nor a black metal expert, but the way they have those menacing / shrieking vocals, pounding drums with machine gun fire, and powerful guitar-like ramming speed riffs, its almost as if they’re giving the so-called Star Wars franchise, the big giant middle finger which it badly needs.

It’s almost like a breath of fresh air as it develops into these thrash and Bay area momentum which comes out of nowhere with massive tanks, ready to destroy the town and give it back to its right owner. And we ain’t talking about soft, cute, cuddly little Care Bears who want us to be normal and those pretentious My Little Pony friendship is magic forest bullshit, we’re talking about blood and guts with an ultimate gore fest, my fellow metal heads!

What can I say? Transcend into Oblivion is the album that you really need in your metal collection straightaway. It is an intriguing piece of work Necrofier has brought upon its intensive framework and visual contracts that you can’t let go of. And once you put this bad boy on, there’s no turning back.
