Featuring three members of Wode, you just know that Aggressive Perfector aren’t going to disappoint, and you would be right. Their particular brand of classic metal, with a bit of thrash thrown in for good measure is rather fantastic, and will have you throwing righteous devil horns for the duration of the album.
‘Dead Undead’ spins out the blocks in a flail of devils horns, all tongue in cheek homage to proper 80’s metal when the riff ruled. Full of punk energy, it kickstarts 30 minutes of possibly the most fun you’ve had listening to a metal album. Full of nostalgic taste of those heady days, tracks such as ‘Like A Beast’ channel thrash, whilst ‘Obscene Cult’ is full of demonic exhortations which were ever present in the genre back then.
‘Denied By The Reaper’ is the kind of stormer Motörhead would have been proud of, whilst ‘Harlots Spell’ is the kind of song Maiden would have loved to have written for their debut, with its progressive NWOBHM energy. With tongue firmly in cheek, ‘Return Of The Axe’ revisits that video store heavy metal mayhem (remember when all horror films seemed to have a metal soundtrack), before ‘Gallows Eve ‘ sees us off as a kind of instrumental epilogue, all harmonic guitars, and cascading riffs. Absolutely glorious stuff.
If you like metal, then this album is for you. It’s unabashed in its delivery, and more fun than an afternoon eating pizza, watching Return Of The Living Dead 3. In fact, this may well be the perfect soundtrack. Throw those horns in the air and get down to your nearest record emporium right now.
