Brazilian duo DEAFKIDS make a welcome return with their new album CICATRIZES DO FUTURO, which translates as “Scars Of The Future”, and it sees the pair reaching new sonic heights throughout the records nine truly mindbending tracks, that will turn your head inside out and upside down.
Pulsating electronics and tribal beats are very much the order of the day, and this combined with the highest of energies throughout results in CICATRIZES DO FUTURO being an album for the body as well as the mind, and this energy is both palpable and undeniable as the tracks build and build, while at the same time releasing scenic extremities with gleeful abandon.
“We’re going to explore the province of the mind”, the sample at the start of ‘PROFECIA’ declares and this sums up where DEAFKIDS are right now with , and what has always been at the centre with their music and their outlook and the mind certainly gets a workout with CICATRIZES DO FUTURO.
The highlights in this album are relentless, with ‘CICATRIZES’, which combines hardcore rave energy and beats with mind warping psychedelics to create a dizzying sublime display of what makes DEAFKIDS such a special band, and that is just the start of a vast journey into formidable sonic power which doesn’t let up until the last notes of closing track ‘EM TRANSE’ let up.
Industrial, noise rock, psych, traditional Brazilian tribal music and all manner of warped beats are all meshed up to create the varied and vivid songs that make up this album, and tracks like ‘SIMULACRO’, ‘REFLEXO’ and ‘POSSESSÃO COLETIVA’ execute these sounds in only the way that DEAFKIDS can, and it feels and sounds relentless as well as breathtaking from start to finish.
CICATRIZES DO FUTURO is an album which sees DEAFKIDS start and ends the party with their intense but inclusive sonic assault and it sounds utterly glorious, and seemingly the only thing better than listening to this album would be experiencing these songs played live, where they would become entirely different entities, to their recorded counterparts, so hopefully the duo will grace these shows again soon with these forward thinking anthems.
