Through the Thought Horizon by David Helpling & Scott Reich

Release date: May 22, 2026
Label: Spotted Peccary Music

This isn’t the first time I’ve delved into the world of David Helpling’s music. My introduction came through his 2025 collaboration with Eric “The” Taylor on The Precious Dark, released on the Spotted Peccary label—a work I once described as a “cosmic voyage upon our shoulders.” Now, as summer approaches in just four weeks, I find myself exploring another collaboration: Helping and Scott Reich’s new album, Through the Thought Horizon.

Inspired by the spirits of Rumi, Rilke, and Mooji, three pillars of inquiry spanning mysticism, poetry, and spiritual teaching, Thought Horizon unfolds as a meditative groove. The duo weaves synthesisers with elements of new age, atmospheric soundscapes, and gentle rainfall, pouring across the wide‑open landscapes of Montana.

There’s a singular, heartfelt beauty here: shifting classical piano textures, soft vocalisations, and a sense of gazing outward into our solar system. This beauty offers a doorway into the inner sanctum Helping and Reich create, a space where the music becomes both healing and surreal. They understand the source of the journey, guiding us into the unknown with tender momentum, letting new parallel universes open before us.

It’s an invitation into something peaceful, relaxed, and mystical—like walking toward a cavernous cave and discovering a crystallised world inside. The experience feels almost cinematic, an IMAX‑scale immersion reminiscent of childhood trips to the science museum, staring in awe at gemstones glowing under perfect light.

Does it live up to The Precious Dark? In its own way, yes. David and Scott keep listeners on the edge of their seat, echoing the golden era of the Halo franchise with its sense of reflection, dissonance, and ultimately encouragement—pushing us toward the edge of the mountaintop.
