Interview: MØTIVATIØN
All of the influences associated within the album come from the rich and fertile tapestry that are represented by the TØP TIER collaborators who appear throughout the listening experience.
MØTIVATIØN is a mysterious new outfit who have just released their new album The Infinite 8 Steps tø Pøwer / Møney / Møre. The whole project is shrouded in secrecy but what we do know is that it features appearances from members of Faith No More, Obituary, Throbbing Gristle, Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, L7, Toxic Holocaust, EyeHateGod, The Lunachicks, Black Anvil and more. Gavin Brown spoke to Ø from MØTIVATIØN who gave us the lowdown on the whole project.
E&D: Your new album The Infinite 8 Steps tø Pøwer / Møney / Møre is out now. Have you been pleased with the response to the album so far?
Ø: We give zero fucks about what anyone thinks about this album. It stands as a testament to our core principal of ‘positive collaboration’ and it represents that construct in every aspect of its aesthetic and existence //// in that regard we are very pleased.
E&D: Can you tell us what you want to achieve with this album?
Ø: The fact that it exists at all is the complete and total objective of this sonic offering. The MØTIVATIØN CØLLECTIVE is not a band and have none of the trappings of “band goals” or “strategic manoeuvring” when it comes to success in a broken industry that puts zero value on music and content. There are themes and messaging that we feel are worth weaving into the idiom of heavy and transcendent riff laden sound and this unique representation of those messages are the zenith of achievement in relation to this record.
E&D: What were the biggest influences in the making of this album?
Ø: All of the influences associated within the album come from the rich and fertile tapestry that are represented by the TØP TIER collaborators who appear throughout the listening experience. If you dig deeper their individual contributions to our ‘culture’, it is apparent that they share a Trail Blazing spirit that is beyond the scope of most artists and therefore we need to look no further than within our own TØP TIER.
E&D: Can you tell us about about the videos you have made for some of the albums tracks?
Ø: Our creative team embodies the tenet that of which we preach: ‘ritualize your motivators’. In this case there is a daily practice of creative output within the collective that can be seen across our social media landscape. The music videos are just an extension of that experience.
E&D: Did you always want to have a strong visual impact with MØTIVATIØN?
Ø: As we have ritualized our creative motivators there is no lack visual stimulation being generated by our creatives in every medium. The visual impact is left for those that choose to dig deeper and find significance within the content.
E&D: What are your future plans for MØTIVATIØN?
Ø: There is no plan in place other than pure evolution. Our motto is ‘WE EVØLVE TØGETHER’ and that would dictate what the future holds for the collective. As it stands we have an NFT platform, a PØDCAST, and a line of tincture all in various stages of production. Our future is always NØW.
E&D: Was the concept of mystery a major part of MØTIVATIØN?
Ø: The concept of ‘mystery’ is better understood through the lens of language and tools created to appeal to those brave enough to embrace it and repel those who are unwilling to face their own darkness.
E&D: How did the ideas for MØTIVATIØN as a project start in the first place?
Ø: The concepts and collective are decades in the making. We chose 9/11/19 to create a public facing expression of it.
E&D: There are lots of prominent guest who feature on The Infinite 8 Steps tø Pøwer / Møney / Møre. Can you give us a bit of an insight into what they did for the album and how it was working with them?
Ø: This question is spelled out in detail on the A.R.K. page of our website, and to describe how it was working with them would be likened to describing the rapture of winning at a team sport where everyone is vibrating at the same frequency and operating at peak performance.
E&D: Did you have a dream guest list when the album was in its infancy stages?
Ø: To ‘submit blindly and release control’ is to allow energy to flow //// dreams become reality and vice versa //// our only constant is the idea that positive collaboration is the key to personal evolution hence why this ‘album’ exists. There are steps included within the listening experience that explain exactly how any of the TØP TIER contributors came to be involved.
E&D: Who would you love to feature on any upcoming music you make in the future?
Ø: Anyone who qualifies as a TØP TIER creator that bring an ØPEN MIND / ØPEN HEART / ØPEN BØDY / ØPEN WALLET to the table we will gladly fuck with.
E&D: Have you thought about doing some sort of live show with special guests coming out?
Ø: We have thought about everything
E&D: How much does the city of New York influence The Infinite 8 Steps tø Pøwer / Møney / Møre and MØTIVATIØN in general?
Ø: We are global //// every city effects us equally.
