Sometimes when a band or a project come up with a self-titled album it doesn’t mean it is actually their debut.
This is now the case with Resavoir, a collaborative project led by Chicago producer/composer Will Miller, as this project’s second album.
Miller is surely an experienced hand, as he has been a longtime member of the indie band Whitney, and has subsequently worked with the likes of Mac Miller, ASAP Rocky, Chance The Rapper, Lil Wayne, and SZA. Here, he is supported by Elton Aura, Whitney, Akenya, Matt Gold, Eddie Burns, Lane Beckstrom, Jeremy Cunningham, Irvin Pierce, Macie Stewart, Peter Manheim and more.
Yet, even with such a large cast, Miller is able to come up with a coherent musical whole, that spans quite a wide ground between R&B, jazz, hip-hop, and ambient music, without losing either focus or scope, coming up with some, languid and ethereal music which you can even call hip-hop-tinged landscapes.
“With Resavoir, it’s been more about unlearning those stigmas and traumas of going through the very rigid system of learning music and coming back to making something that is going to make me feel good and reflects how I’m feeling in the moment,” Miller explains.
Such an approach seems to have worked wonders for Miller and his collaborators here, creating quite an ample reservoir of cool grooves.
