16 Dreams A Minute by Stuck In The SoundRelease date: February 2, 2024
Stuck In The Sound are French indie stalwarts who have been releasing albums as far back as 2006 but it seems without an album release since 2019.
Yet, they might have been doing something right with some 280 million streams under their belt.
Now, they are back, with a new album, 16 Dreams A Minute, trying to achieve two things at the same time – re-define their sound and at the same time retain their independence and independent ethic.
The latter seems intact for sure, but fortunately for them, so does the more electro-pop tendencies they go for this time around. Part of that just might be credited to producer Ash Workman (Christine & The Queens, Metronomy, Ghost Poet, The Shoes), who gives their current sound that all modern and current veneer.
Still, the main thing remains with the bend and their excellent melodic sense, whether they go for a more languid electro sound (‘Free Yourself’) or for the edgy, post-punk overtones (‘B/W Rainbow’).
But with all the variation in sound, there is a definite sense of consistency in the sound here as the listener is all the time aware it is one and the same artist/band that knows exactly what is supposed to go on here.
